XXL 3D Printinge

The PISTOL GmbH produces models with the VX 1000 3D printer by Voxeljet for investment casting prototypes, casting tests, pilot and small series, and single-part production.

The Process

Polyacrylic powder (PMMA) is spread out in thin layers in the printer‘s building space and using a printing head the CAD specifications of the model are printed with a binder. The model takes shape and is built upwards by lowering the workbench and printing the subsequent layers. Then, the finely porous PMMA model is infiltrated with wax so that its surface is sealed and smooth.

Advantages

- Extremely detailed accuracy as a result of precision layering, optimally         suited for complex thin-walled and highly structured components.
- Realisation of undercuts without water-soluble cores.
- The model is produced in parts for ceramic cores. The model parts are    joined after core insertion.
- In terms of the fragility of complex ceramic cores, it is better when they    are not exposed to the pressure involved with mould filling a wax      pattern die.

- The PMMA model reduces its volume when it warms up to approximately    70°C allowing it to avoid ruptures in the ceramic bowl.
- Models are delivered only a few days after placing an order.
